Kollectin Staff’s Story: Laura and Her Story of Giving Back to the Community
Laura Covarrubias is our Warehouse Operative at Kollectin. Today, we want to share her inspiring story with the Alexandria House.
Alexandria House
Located in Los Angeles, Alexandria House is a nonprofit organization that provides safe and supportive housing to single women and mothers with children who are seeking stability and permanent homes. Embracing anti-racist, multicultural community culture, they prioritize the needs of economically poor women by providing them with the necessary resources to make life transitions.
A Sister's Struggles Sparked a Lasting Impact
Laura first heard about Alexandria House during a difficult period of her sister's life. With the home's help, her sister was accepted into their housing program and she was able to move into her own apartment within 15 months. Today, she works at the home as its Facilities Coordinator, paying it forward by providing the same safety and security she received.
Donations That Brighten Up Holidays
Laura has been donating clothes to the organization for several years, and with support from Nadia, (Kollectin’s CEO), she’s been able to bring extra joy to Alexandria House by donating jewelry for special occasions like Christmas and Valentines Day.
From Recipient to Giver
Laura and her family's story not only reminds us of how rewarding giving back can be, but also proves that even people with limited resources possess a great capacity for kindness and generosity. It appears that their kindness is helping to make an impactful difference in the community, as well as inspiring others to do the same.
